Calculus / Project Based / Self Study with Guided Instruction / Full Year Course
Afrocentric orientation
This course is primarily a self study course that offers projects in each major unit of the subject, pre-recorded instructional videos, and live chat and/or video streaming for 1 hour, 4 times per month. Dialogue about courses is also fostered on the Afrocentric Applied Learning Facebook page and created course group.
This course is taught from an African centered approach, where problems are placed in the context of real-world scenarios involving people of African descent. The course is not meant to replace a high school calculus course, but gives the subject an African centered orientation.
The course includes the following topics: elementary functions; properties of functions and their graphs; limits and continuity; differential calculus (including definition of the derivative, derivative formulas, theorems about derivatives, geometric applications, optimization problems, and rate-of- change problems); and integral calculus (including antiderivatives and the definite integral).
